Aluminium rafter supported muntin bars are used to connect two or more pieces of glazing in a roofing installation. They are typically used for conservatories and orangeries but may also be used for carports, lean-tos, and other outbuildings. The aluminium bars are corrosion resistant and weatherproof. They are lightweight, so easy for installation, and prevent rain from leaking into the glazing. Muntin bars, also called glazing bars or sash bars, are an important aspect of your glazing installation and should not be overlooked.
At Glazing Systems, we have a large selection of glazing bars, end caps, polycarbonate sheets, and other glazing products. We offer competitive prices, fast delivery, and we are always on hand to answer any questions or queries that you might have about the process.
Aluminium Muntin Bars
When buying muntin bars, you have the option of plastic or aluminium. Plastic is inexpensive and plentiful and is strong enough for use with lightweight polycarbonate or in short term installations. Aluminium is more expensive, and it is still a lightweight material that is easy to install.
Aluminium won’t rust or corrode when used in the rain, which makes aluminium muntin bars a great choice here in the UK, where we have rain virtually all year round. It is also durable and difficult to damage, so you won’t have to repair or replace your glazing bars.
Rafter Supported Muntin Bars
Choose rafter supported bars where you have easy access to a timber frame. The bars screw into and attach directly to the frame. This means that they are more stable and they are less likely to become damaged. It also means that they can retain more weight, so rafter bars are preferred for use with thick polycarbonate and with glass panes.
The muntin bars include a single end cap. This prevents rain from getting into the frame which, in turn, can lead to leaking windows, cold spots around the glazing, and to misting of the windows. We sell end caps separately, so whether you need a replacement or your installation requires a unique design and layout, you can buy the required end caps for your installation.
Colours And Sizes
There are different sizes of muntin bar available, and you do need to ensure that you choose the one that is appropriate for your project. 28mm horizontal muntin glazing bars are used to join 28mm double glazed glass panes, for example. The 24mm/25mm bars can be used to connect 24mm double glazed glass or 25mm polycarbonate sheets. Both bars are available in 2.1m lengths. As standard, these bars are available in brown or white, and can be dispatched immediately, but we can also supply muntin bars in any standard RAL colour, by order.
